We launched the new Feldon Valley Golf Club website in July and the feedback from our client and their members alike has been nothing but positive. It’s always nice to know that something you’ve worked hard for is working seamlessly and people are enjoying the experience you’ve created for them. Tom made sure the member’s account area of the site was intuitive and from the start we wanted the information available to be of interest and use to the members.

The Virtual Press Office that Tom has been working on is nearing sign-off and I’ve been creating a screencast for the help section using a pretty cool piece of kit called CamStudio. The actual software is open source and the results are great. Just need to do a decent voice over now ;o)

Personal wise I got back off Holiday on July 19th, we went to Spain and were lucky enough to watch the world cup final in the streets of a town called Guardamar with all the locals – the atmosphere was just incredible, those guys know how to party!

In my last post I mentioned my motocross antics and that I was looking good for 2nd in the championship… well, it didn’t quite turn out like that. The very next round I had a massive off and cracked a couple of ribs which resulted in only 15 points for the round (I normally average around 100) which dropped me to 4th in the standings. After a few more rounds I’m still holding onto 4th and I’m back to full fitness now so with a bit of luck and some more skill I may be able to salvage 3rd.

We’re working as hard as ever in the web dept, – Tom is buried in PHP and MySQL for an online antiques software package and I’ve just launched a rather good looking site for Knollands Septic Tanks & Drainage. Not the most stylish subject or product but I’m really happy with the way the site looks and feels – take a look: www.knollands.co.uk

Next projects are a Virtual Press Office for Tom and a new website for Carter Retail for me, along with all the usual day to day stuff, all of which are made easier when I open the curtains to bright sunshine.

Personal wise I’m racing my motocross bike at Whaddon on Sunday and it’s forecast to be 24º so sweat and tears are likely. I’m lying joint 3rd in the championship and 2nd place is only 9pts away so if I have a good day I’m looking good for 2nd. Oh, and one of my main rivals is out through injury – am I a bad person for smiling when I heard?

Just a few tweaks here and there and we’ll be good to go. This sport antiques website has been a challenging project to work on as we had to consider Schotten’s existing back office system and product database during both the design and build.

If I’m honest I find it easier to design a site based on a new spec than using an existing system but I have to say I did enjoy designing this one. Manfred Schotten Antiques have fantastic premises with some amazing sports memorabilia so the new website design needed to do them justice and convey their personality. I went for a simple design so not to detract the user from the products on the site but included some nice details to create some character like rough borders, paint-roller style edges and lined paper backgrounds resulting in a design which is a kind of ‘shabby-chic’.

Tom worked his magic when building the site and integrating the existing database and we are both really happy with the results. There is plenty of scope for further development and adding functionality so I’m sure we’ll be updating this post as we add new features.
