Golf - Past and Present
Golf - Past & Present : Intro
It is several years since we have been able to assemble such a fine collection of early golfing memorabilia and are delighted to present it here. An exciting development in this catalogue is the superb collection of the original artwork of Ken Reed, one of the world’s leading painters of golf course landscapes and official poster designer to both the Royal and Ancient Club and the U.S.G.A. Due to his commitments with the commissions he undertakes, this is the first exhibition of his original paintings and we are delighted to be able to give you the opportunity to view and purchase Ken’s fine works. We feel that the combination of the early images of Michael Brown, John Smart and their contemporaries, the fine clubs, balls and ceramics on offer and the vibrant poster designs and watercolours of Ken Reed surely provide a superb record of “Golf – Past and Present”.

Kenneth Reed, whose paintings have been commissioned by such golfing greats as Gary Player, Bob Charles, Greg Norman and Tom Weiskopf for their own homes, and whose clients include the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association, is widely acclaimed as one of the international golf community’s finest artists. Since 1972 he has been creating the evocative paintings of golf course landscapes which have included such venues as Augusta, Pinehurst and Pebble Beach, and his paintings grace the walls of many historic clubhouses such as Sunningdale, Wentworth and Royal Troon.

A fellow of the Royal Society of Arts since 1962, and for over 25 years pursuing an academic career in parallel with that in golf art, such was the demand for his services that in 1996 he dedicated his skills full time to interpreting golf’s wonderful landscapes. At the same time Ken was commissioned by the Championship Committee of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association to create the official posters for their respective Open Championships over a number of years. It is many of these original designs and conceptual drawings that are included here in this first, landmark, exhibition of Ken’s work. We are delighted to be able to offer you this unique opportunity to enjoy Ken’s great views of the great game of golf.
