One of the most famous fishing tackle
manufacturers are Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, who were founded in 1872.
Wherever the British went they took with them everything that made
life pleasurable. This of course included fishing tackle. Hardy Brothers’ agent
in India were Messrs. Manton & Co of 13 Old Court Street, Calcutta.
The most popular fishing in India was for Mahseer or for Trout. They
also produced angler’s guides giving information for fishing
across the world including Kenya, the Nile, Africa, Ceylon, Kashmir,
India, British
Colombia, Canada and Finland, suggesting which of their rods were best
for which country.
